Links of Note
- The Slavic
Interest Group is an unofficial group of members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Its website contains the SIG newsletter, links to numerous related sites, as well as an extensive bibliography of (mostly) English-language sources on medieval Russia. You can also find online the Dictionary of Russian Period Names containing names collated from medieval sources by two SIG members, Paul Wickenden of Thanet (Paul Goldschmidt) and myself, Predslava Vydrina (Masha Gedilaghine Holl). The dictionary also contains an introduction discussing the structure of medieval Russian names and naming practices in medieval Russia.
- Easter in the Eastern Orthodox Church rarely falls on the same date as in
the Western Churches -- Catholic or Protestant. If you would like to find out
the date of Easter in the Orthodox Church for a given year, follow this link to
an Easter Date Java
applet that does the calculation for you.
- If you have ever read a Russian book, you were probably confused by the multitude of names. My Writing Page contains a link to my Table of Russian Names that will help you sort out the naming system and figure out the many variants of Russian first names. You will also find there articles and tips for writers and further features on names and useful hints for character naming in fiction.
